A bull flag is a continuation pattern that forms after a strong upward move. Price pauses and pulls back slightly before continuing higher.
Structure
Two parts:
1. Flagpole
- Sharp, explosive move upward with high volume
- Strong momentum โ usually a single or few large candles
- The bigger the pole, the stronger the eventual breakout
2. Pennant
- Price consolidates in a symmetrical triangle
- Upper trendline: descending โ lower highs
- Lower trendline: ascending โ higher lows
- Both lines converge toward an apex
- Volume contracts significantly during this phase
